I just want to upgrade my freaking 2009 13" macbook pro to 500gb-1tb?

I have read so much crap about you cant do this because it 12.5mm and you cant do this because it causes skipping, and you have to download hdapm.... I just want a reliable 500gb-1tb hardrive upgrade for my mid 2009 13" macbook pro 2.26ghz. I cant seem to find a straightforward answer from apple, geek squad or online. Does anyone know?
