How to disconnect my fax machine and reuse my phone connection like before?

I tried disconnecting my fax machine from both the power as well as phone connections. The outgoing of the phone has been restored but the incoming gets no phone ring instead the incoming call gets connected to some mail box by the connection provider (airtel). It has become a cuse of great inconvenience, kindly help.
